Domestic cement production increased by 15% to 3.8 million tons last year, while sales of this commodity on the domestic market increased by 5% to about 3 million tons. The data has been published by the Czech Cement Association.
Professionals estimate the sector to experience a decline due to economic downturn of the construction industry. According to experts, cement consumption grew last year because launching a number of building projects was postponed from 2010 to 2011 due to weather conditions. Czech cement export was very successful last year, in particular to Poland. 263,441 tons of cement were exported from the Czech Republic to Poland, which is roughly 2.5 times year-on-year. In total cement exports increased by 46% to 842,793 tons in 2011. The largest cement producer in the Czech Republic include Českomoravský cement, a member of the German group Heidelberg Cement, the French group Lafarge which produces cement in Čížkovice nearby Lovosice, cement production in the East-Bohemian Prachovice owned by Swiss Holcim, cement production by the German group Dyckerhoff in Hranice.
